DC Comics to publish Gears of War series
|
DC Comics, in partnership with Epic Games, has announced plans to publish a comic book series based on the Gears of War videogame franchise.
The series will come from DC's WildStorm publishing imprint this October, with details about the creative team to be released at a later date.

Microsoft continues GTA IV push as 360 outsells PS3
|
Microsoft continues to claim Xbox 360 as the platform of choice for Rockstar's forthcoming Grand Theft Auto IV, following March NPD data that showed the PlayStation 3 was outsold by Microsoft's system.
In a statement following the release of independent sales figures, Microsoft claimed that consumers see the Xbox 360 as the "chosen place" for GTA IV.

Pirates MMO to shut majority of servers
|
Flying Lab Software has announced that it is to shut down seven of its 11 servers for the MMO Pirates of the Burning Sea.
The developer credits the move to low server populations, a possible sign that the MMO has not done as well as predicted, and says they will be condensed for gameplay reasons.

CEO Primus Vermatrix with the backing of the Inner Sphere Design Studios (ISDS) Board of Directors opened the possibility for it’s dedicated Inner Sphere Wars (ISW) gaming community to purchase ISDS stock.

Nickelodeon to develop new virtual worlds
|
Following success with Neopets and Nicktropolis, Nickelodeon has announced plans to develop new virtual worlds based on its popular animated properties.
The company is developing worlds based on SpongeBob SquarePants and Monkey World, as well as Neopia, expected to launch in the next twelve months. All will be developed at the company's Virtual Worlds Studios.

EA extends Take-Two offer
|
Electronic Arts continues to pursue Take-Two shareholders by extending its tender offer until May 16, but lowering the price to USD 25.74 per share.
The new price reflects additional shares issued to Zelnick Media following stockholders approval of Take-Two's incentive stock plan at yesterday's annual general meeting.

FireSky unveiled as Stargate Worlds publisher
|
Joe Ybarra, one of the founding members of Electronic Arts, has told ShoutOutGaming.Com that the newly-formed publisher he's now working for can provide a greater sense of connected community than other MMO publishers currently offer.
The new publishing company, FireSky, will take responsibility for bringing forthcoming MMO Stargate Worlds to the market, and is a subsidiary of Cheyenne Mountain Studios.

GameCity set for late October, new venue confirmed
|
GameCity, the cultural and educational videogame festival, is set to return to Nottingham this year on October 30 – November 1.
And as the event proves more popular, the organisers have announced an expansion to incorporate a new venue – superclub Gatecrasher.

GAME to push online user recommendations
|
GAME has added new functionality to its website to encourage a stronger sense of community, with the hope of driving "increased basket sizes and repeat purchases" online.
The technology is being provided by Avail Intelligence, and will feature a much greater emphasis on feedback from users, in order to form the basis for recommended related purchases, according to PrecisionMarketing.
